Sport plays an important role in the lives of many King’s students. Student involvement in activities outside the classroom assists their development as people. This involvement creates a sense of belonging, personal satisfaction and self esteem from achievement and develops within our young men an awareness of and appreciation for others.

At King’s there are a wide variety of sports available both in the Summer and Winter codes. Each team has staff involvement in either a coaching or managerial capacity. The expertise and enthusiasm of staff creates an environment in which students develop their abilities while enjoying themselves.

The school boasts a long history of sporting excellence. Over 76 King’s men have gone on to be full New Zealand representatives. Included in these representatives are thirteen All Blacks, consisting of men such as Chris Laidlaw, Laurie Mains, Carl Hayman and most recently Ben Smith. Seven old boys have represented New Zealand in cricket including Ken Rutherford and current black caps Brendon and Nathan McCullum.

Many more young King’s men have won national titles and represented New Zealand at age group level.
