Yachting

With four Sunburst yachts, King’s provides an ideal opportunity for pupils to learn and develop sailing skills. The boys who sail, do so regularly using the boats for training and racing. Invariably they learn self-reliance, water safety skills and have an enjoyable experience.

Competitions

The school regularly has participants in the South Island Secondary Schools’ Sunburst Regatta sailed on the Otago Harbour. Boys also use the school boats to compete in the annual Vauxhall Marathon Race. King's is fortunate to train and sail out of the Vauxhall Yacht Club where experienced sailors assist our boys.

History

The very well known ‘voice of yachting’ Peter Montgomery is a King’s High School Old Boy. In more recent time Daniel Meehan has been a prominent sailor on the school boy scene, both in local and international regattas.
