The school is in the process of setting up a Surf Academy for boys who want to compete locally and nationally at the scholastic level.

We are establishing a relationship with the South Coast Board Riders so we can prepare boys to trial and be selected for the Otago regional scholastic team and compete at the national scholastic competition. The school is also looking at ways to fund an Academy team to travel and compete in the National Secondary Schools surf competition which is held every year in Raglan. The Surf Academy aims to take a holistic approach to educating the boys about the sport of surfing; whilst fostering the competitive drive needed to be successful in competition surfing.  The Academy also aims to educate boys about the ocean and all it has to offer. This includes water safety, weather forecasting and oceanography.

Duration

The academy will run for most of the year depending on the weather in the winter months and the timing of surf competitions.

Cost

The academy is still in its infancy and some costs may be involved once it is up and running. The school is considering funding options from both the local surf industry and individual fundraising throughout the year for entry into national competitions.

Assessment

The students are assessed throughout the year on their competitive development and generally on how their overall surfing is progressing.
